Dr hab. n. med. Iwona Gabriel, MD, PhD

Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecological Oncology

Specialist in obstetrics and gynecology and gynecological oncology. Her clinical experience includes gynecological and oncological surgery as well as the diagnosis and treatment of female cancers. She completed the European specialist examination in gynecological oncology organized by ESGO. Author and co-author of numerous scientific publications, her research interests include gynecological cancers, translational medicine and new diagnostic methods. For many years, she has collaborated scientifically with clinical and research teams in the United States. Member of international scientific societies, including ESGO and AAGL, and a reviewer of scientific papers. She is also involved in teaching, mentoring young scientists and organizing educational events for physicians and patients. She served as the scientific chair of Cancer Week as part of the European City of Science Katowice 2024 celebrations. Her particular interest is combining modern medicine, scientific research and women's health education.

Professor at the Department and Clinic of Gynecology, Obstetrics and Oncological Gynecology of SUM in Katowice. Holds the international title of specialist in pediatric and adolescent gynecology (IFEPAG). Head of the Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology Section of the Polish Society of Gynecologists and Obstetricians. Member of the Board of EURAPAG. Since 2021, she heads the first Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology Department in Poland. In 2024, she received the golden cross of merit from the President of Poland for her service to the development of medicine and healthcare.

Independent obstetrician and gynaecologist in Algiers, Algeria; with an academic focus on both diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy, yet with a special interest in basic research on the endometrium and on correlations between hysteroscopy and histopathology.
